  Practice of Engineering Profession

    A Corporate Member who has obtained Chartered Engineer’s Certificate from IEI possesses the platform to practice as self-employed consultant in Engineering Profession in India and abroad. This certification provides value addition during the empanelment as Value, Loss Assessor with various Government bodies and Financial Institutions. Corporate Members are entitled to receive Chartered Engineer certificate on payment of requisite fee.


  Registration as Professional Engineers

    Professional Engineer Certification enhances the knowledge, skill and competency of engineering professionals and also elevates their career by making them a member of an elite group of engineers. The rise in demand of competent engineers in the country necessitates the importance of Professional Engineers for certifying the engineering plans, drawings etc. for any public works of the government departments.


  Professional development

    Facilitates IEI members to undertake various training programs at Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), Hyderabad, through Continual Professional Development (CPD).

  Career Advancement

    • Corporate Members are eligible for exemption from appearing in Section A and may appear directly in Section B in additional branch examination of IEI.
    • Corporate Members (MIE/FIE only) may be empanelled as internal project guide in Section B examination conducted by IEI.

FIE

  • Fellow

    Fellow is the highest grade amongst the IEI Corporate Members category eligible to use designatory words FIE in their name.Fellow is awarded based on the knowledge, contribution and experience of the person in the respective engineering fieldafter due scrutiny of the application by a board of eminent personalities.

  • Eligibility:

    In order for a business to grow, the entrepreneur must grow. First, the entrepreneur’s role will evolve from primarily being a “doer” to a manager then to a leader and ultimately to being a coach/mentor.

    • Should have 40 years of age.
    • BE/B.Tech/Sec A&B Exam. of IEI or equivalent qualification.
    • Minimum 15 years of employment in the aggregate in a position of responsibility in design or execution of important engineering works.

  • Member

    Member is a senior grade of IEI Corporate Member’s category and is eligible to use designatory words MIE after the name.

  • Eligibility:

    In order for a business to grow, the entrepreneur must grow. First, the entrepreneur’s role will evolve from primarily being a “doer” to a manager then to a leader and ultimately to being a coach/mentor.

    • Should have 30 years of age.
    • BE/B.Tech/Sec A&B Exam. of IEI or equivalent qualification.
    • Eight years professional engineering experience in a position of responsibility.

  • Associate Member

    Member is a senior grade of IEI Corporate Member’s category and is eligible to use designatory words MIE after the name.

  • Eligibility:

    In order for a business to grow, the entrepreneur must grow. First, the entrepreneur’s role will evolve from primarily being a “doer” to a manager then to a leader and ultimately to being a coach/mentor.

    • Should have 30 years of age.
    • BE/B.Tech/Sec A&B Exam. of IEI or equivalent qualification.
    • Eight years professional engineering experience in a position of responsibility.

Non-Corporate Membership Details

Chartered Engineer (C Eng)

  • Eligibility Criteria for Chartered Engineer

    Any Life Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India) can designate himself as a Chartered Engineer (C Eng).A special certificate specifying as Chartered Engineer ( C Eng ) can be obtained on payment (contact the Institution of Engineers for the fee). This is applicable only to the Members who have paid Composite Subscriptions / Life Compounding fees in full.

    However, Corporate members already in possession of Chartered Engineer Certificate applying for the same after upgradation / transfer of membership or more than once for any other reason, the fee will be varied. Such Corporate Members should apply with a copy of existing Chartered Engineer Certificate.

  • Benifits of Chartered Engineer (CEngg):

    As per the Declaration No.16 of the Royal Charter, 1935 and Clause 69(i) of the Bye-Laws & Regulations of the Institution, every Corporate Member (FIE/MIE/AMIE) is entitled to use the style and title of Chartered Engineer (India).

    The Chartered Engineer certificate is often useful for the following purpose:-

    • To be empanelled as Valuer, Loss Assessor in various financial institutions like Bank, Insurance companies etc.
    • To be empanelled as Chartered Engineer in the Original Side of High Courts, Central Excise and Customs and other similar govt concerns.
    • To win contract of civil works from Municipal Corporation and similar govt bodies.
    • To be employed and/or promoted in foreign companies.
    • To practice as self employed consultant in India and abroad.

  • Eligibility:

    Engineers whose qualification is BE / BTech or equivalent, recognized by the Statutory Authority or Government of India and who are having 5 years or more experience, having membership of a recognized professional society and having maintained continuous professional development at satisfactory level, can submit application in the prescribed format to the PE Cell, The Institution of Engineers (India), 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata-700020.

    • Should have 40 years of age.
    • Having Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent recognised by Statutory Authority or Government of India;
    • Minimum 5 years’, professional experience;
    • Membership of recognised professional engineering institution / association;
    • Maintained Continued Professional Development (CPD) at a satisfactory level;

Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Eligibility Criteria for Professional Engineer (PE)

    In the light of the authority vested by the Royal Charter for certifying the competency of engineers, the Council of The Institution of Engineers ( India) may, at its discretion, approve that a person fulfilling the educational, technical and other experience criteria as prescribed by it, shall be entitled to describe himself as a Professional Engineer

  • Eligibility:

    Engineers whose qualification is BE / BTech or equivalent, recognized by the Statutory Authority or Government of India and who are having 5 years or more experience, having membership of a recognized professional society and having maintained continuous professional development at satisfactory level, can submit application in the prescribed format to the PE Cell, The Institution of Engineers (India), 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata-700020.

    Professional Engineer (PE) Certification enables engineering professionals to advance their career aspiration in wide ranging ways.

    The Chartered Engineer certificate is often useful for the following purpose:-

    • Gives confidence to employer/prospective employer about competency of Engineer in a particular domain
    • Enhances an engineering professional’s stature
    • Makes them suitable for higher levels of responsibility
    • In future, only a professional engineer may prepare, sign, seal and submit engineering plans and drawings to a public authority for approval, or to seal engineering work for public and private clients.
